How It Works

The Global Object Identifier (GOI) operates as a universal system for assigning unique, persistent, and interoperable identifiers to both digital and physical objects. The process begins when an object—such as a dataset, research output, product, or digital file—is registered within the GOI framework. During registration, the system automatically generates a globally unique identifier and links it with descriptive metadata, including information about the creator, title, version, date, and other relevant attributes.

Once assigned, the GOI becomes a permanent reference to that object, remaining stable even if the object is moved, duplicated, or its ownership changes. This ensures that the object can always be accurately cited, discovered, and accessed across different platforms and information systems.

The GOI infrastructure also supports interoperability by allowing seamless integration with databases, repositories, and indexing systems. Through this structure, researchers, institutions, and organizations can trace, validate, and share objects with confidence, ensuring authenticity, transparency, and long-term accessibility.
